I never watch ads to be honest, as soon as they appear I press the 'mute' button and channel surf or just check my phone/go into the kitchen for a drink etc...
Those awful PPI ones on satellite tv used to drive me mad though.
You're missing the point of the advert. The staff are singing "I'll Be There" as they really will be there when you go to their bank. So what if they cannot sing, they wouldn't be working in a bank if they could and could make something of it. It's showing you that real people work for the company, like you or me.
I certainly haven't missed the point, i'm merely stating that I can't stand it.
I understand the feeble usage of the song, I just completely disagree with it.
In my humble opinion, banks & building societies basically steal from anyone who chooses to open an account with them, however, this is not the place for me to be talking about that.
As far as "So what if they cannot sing", well, I am a music lover, and I don't want my senses assaulted by a pathetic advert.
You say they are real people like you are me, well they certainly aren't like me, firstly I have morals which would prevent me from working for any of these corporations in the first place.
Secondly, I have always wished that I could sing, but unfortunately I can't, so i'm got going to insult people who love music by trying to.
The Jackson 5 original is a great song that deserves more than to be massacred for the sake of an advertisment.
For me it's the horrendous Halifax ads with the people that can't sing singing.
It seems to have become popular over the last year or two,
One guy in particular does it, no idea of the @$#*'s name though.
Basically, they get a group of people with no singing ability whatsoever and attempt to train them to sing.
The end results are always terrible.
The Halifax ads have been using this concept for the past couple of years and it hurts my ears.
The current ones have a horrible version of "I'll Be There".
There are plenty of amazingly talented singers out there that could do with the work.
Basically, if you can't sing - Don't !

There's one advert that is annoying me at the moment. I don't think many of you will have seen it, but it runs on practcally every indent on BBC News24. They are trying to sell digital radios, but I don't think they could have come up with a more abstract series of commercials to do it. They are so stupid.
Absolutely.
That 888 Casino one with Shane Warne fills my soul with rage !
Well, maybe that's a bit much, but those ads are really terrible.
And his face is rather bizarre too.
One that makes me switch channels is that Hellmanns Light Mayonnaise advert. The one with the cutesy-poo, cliched stop-motion animation and the twee, vile, happy-clappy neo-folk tosh for the soundtrack that seems to be dominating all adverts at the moment.

Most of the ads are pretty dire, but one I never tire of seeing is the dancing hamster for GEM 106 East Midlands radio - maybe because they don't show it to much.
