  • Xmas 2024 Music thread (sort of)

Well admitted it's early-mid October but I have seen that Heart Radio have re-opened their Heart Xmas Station and there is a TV Station dedicated to Xmas Music re-commencing as is the norm

I am so tempted to have Heart Xmas on in the Car but it is just way too early and I respect the Music and celebration of Christmas-time too much to go against that and play it in October ... may-be mid November, around the 20th/25th will be a good starting point and date I am thinking!

I did a scan on my DAB radio and it came up, although I am certain that the station was already on there from a previous year. Usually it starts up in mid-November, and even then, it is just after the newsreaders on the TV stop wearing poppies and fireworks can no longer be heard outside.

If you think that's too early, then if you have Sky, then there are some film channels showing American Christmas films since the start of September, around the channel 315 mark (those that have five minute "entertainment news" an hour into it, splitting the film in two). Who buys Christmas cards in September? Clinton Cards assume that someone does. I know that I sound like Ebeneezer Scrooge, but life does go on.

I don't tend to get into a 'listening to Christmas music' mood until a week or so before the day itself, and it rapidly drops off on Boxing Day, so I am back to listening to ordinary music by the 27th, and that fairly accurately mirrors my overall attitude to Christmas; by the 27th I've had enough, and it is tradition only that makes me not take down the tree and decorations before 12th night. Peak Christmas music listening for me is Christmas Eve.
