So sorry you've now lost Misty.

Do you think you will have another cat or dog? Or is it too soon for you yet?
I have to get another one straight away when I lose one because I can't bear the emptiness and it helps with my grief.

    Lovely pictures Stu.

Thanks for the support Kaz and Rosso, I know it's just a fact of life, everything dies, but like you say, It's Heartbreaking when the Time comes, they are one of the Family. Misty was PTS at 2:25 on Monday :'(
I just Realised the other day that this is the first time in over 35 years that I dont have a furbabe to care for, The house Feels so damned empty!!!

Sorry about Shane Rosso (17 was a very respectable age to reach)

My First Dog "Gyp" collie/lab X was 16½ yrs, the spark was still in Her eye's, but the body was done, I also Broke My Heart over My last Dog "Prince" German Shepherd (They are wonderful dog's, so Obedient and Loyal) leaving My house one morning going to Work, I noticed that Prince seemed restless?? When I got home, I thought it strange that He wasn't there to greet me?? when I went to His Bed, I thought He was fast asleep, then discovered He was gone:'( Prince had had a Heart attack, He was 10 yrs old
but thats one thing about these anilmal's that come into our lives, " They're Never Forgotten !! "

Photo of Prince, and second photo is My Mates Dog "Cindy" watching Misty and Prince Playing (Prince was daft as a Brush at times, whereas Cindy was older and wiser, and knew not to play withCat's who have sharp claws !!

    sad indeed Stu

My dog (Shane, a beautiful Golden Retriever) was one of two we kept from a litter of 7.

Sheba his sister was unfortunately killed on a railway line , but Shane lived for 17 years. He slept outside in his kennel EVERY night (even in the bad winter of 1979/80), but he had a great life...we lived in the middle of nowhere so he'd simply go off for the day, exploring etc I guess, and would return at tea-time, as my mum stood at the back door shouting him for his tea (like a little boy I know )

You could see him coming across the wheat fields, as - every so often - he'd leap up from the wheat, just to check his bearings and make sure he was heading in the right direction still

His back legs went too....its an awful decision to make when it comes:cry:

My heart really goes out to you Stu. Misty is such a beautiful cat.

That poem genuinely brought a tear to my eye Heather.

As pet owners this is the day we always dread and it is truly heartbreaking to make that decision.
While they are here though they give us such love and companionship as well as many precious memories. I for one couldn't be without them.

I'll be thinking of you Stu.

Re: what pets do you have?

I read this on a forum a while back Stu, and its seems to have helped lots of fantastic pet owners, so heres hoping it helps you too x Its called The Last Battle.

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end

And hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree,
It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you,
    Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close,we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Sadly, Misty has went downHill over the last 6 days and has now lost the use of His back Legs :'(
the vet did give Him a Strong Steroid 2 days ago, and Although He is Eating, Drinking and Still Happy
I feel it may Be time to call the Vet for the last time :'(
He's been with me for such a long time (since I was 21)

He will be 18 on the 20th May, but the way things are going, it's looking unlikely He'll see it

    I'm really gonna Miss Him :'( :'( :'(

Pets will have to wait til i retire. We both work full time and have our hands full with our 14 month old small person Marissa.

My parents have always had pets though and at the moment have a 3 year old labrador called sasha, an african grey called smokey, a cockatoo called cocky and a goldfish called er fish. The cockatoo doesn't say much but Smokey has an uncanny knack of saying the right thing at the right time. He tells Sasha to shut up when she barks. He says bye if somebody is leaving. He used to do a fantastic impression of the phone ringing which caught them out a few times and as they replaced the hand set he would laugh.
