      Re: The Goodies

I bought one of the DVD's a few years ago & really enjoyed it, even though I had only seen the ITV ones & the odd BBC repeat.

Their style of humour was an interesting blend of "Python lite" with some more conventional slapstick, with the almost standard 1970s speeded-up film sequences.

        Re: The Goodies

I heard back then the BBC practically threw money at them to make the show, hence such elaborate sketches with very good special effects models etc - i.e. remember that giant Dougall and Zebedee?! It shows how rich the BBC were back then...

A 12-dvd boxed set of all the BBC episodes is now available from Network. I bought one last September and am now a huge revived Goodies fan. I met all three in January at a signing event. Some exciting news: for the 50th Anniversary a feature-length documentary is being made on the Goodies! If you can spare a few quid to help get it off the ground, that would be great. The crowdfunder is here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/t...ie/x/6378931#/ Also they recorded an audio episode - an entirely new story including Joanna Lumley as guest star and this is due out shortly on Audible so keep an eye open for that. There's a very active facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/178416125631024/ and the Goodies Rule OK website is stuffed with information http://www.goodiesruleok.com/index.php like episode summaries which should bring back memories and laughter.

Great bit of slapstick from the 70s, i enjoyed it a lot as a kid but has 45 years been kind? Many once great shows pale into insignificance as the years pass fraid

              Re: The Goodies

The Goodies has been unlucky to be short on repeats & home releases due to someone high up in the BBC supposedly not liking the series, & making sure it was hidden away.

                  Re: The Goodies

Oh how I loved this show! It diminished a little when transferring to ITV, IMHO. (Remember the spoof ads on BBC? They didn't revive that on commercial TV!)

Remember - they were contemporaries of the early Pythons although their offering was less satirical.

I also bought some of the singles plus their album and a book, all of which I still have... somewhere.
