  • Gino Ginelli

Gino Ginelli was a range of ice-creams popular in the late 80s, early 90s. The best flavour was toffee fudge (pronounced 'toffee-fooogee' in the adverts), that had toffee pieces in it. There was also a tutti fruitti flavour and mint choc chip, or 'minty choccy chip' as the authentic Italian on the advert told us.

I really liked GG ince cream, made by Walls.

There was also Pizzas in the range IIRC.

The tutti fruitti was my favourite of the range. I loved tutti fruitti ice cream. It seams to have disappeared altogether now.
        Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

The mint choc chip flavour was amazing. I never liked the look of the Tutti Fruitti one. I'd like to try it now, but as stuckinthe80's has said, they just don't do that flavour at all any more.

Mint choc chip is my favourite flavour ice cream now that tutti fruitti has gone! Gino ginelli ice creams were really nice. They disappeared when carte Dor came out I think. Carte Dor just doesn't have the character or style of GG IMO.

did GG go bust or was in bought by some other company.
surely GG did more than those 3 flavours.

It wasn't a company in its own right. It was a brand that was owned by Walls. So no it didn't go bust. They stopped making it. Then Walls introduced Carte D'or. Maybe as a replacement i'm not sure on that but that's how it appears.

                    thanks for the info mate.
wonder did they stop making it because it was no longer that popular, but id find that hard to believe.

thanks for that pic of the GG fridge that i do remember.

Funny how you forget things then remember it vividly when its mentioned here. I even remember the awful jingle for the ads...argh.
