  • Austin 1100

Something of a classic car. Indeed, was a lot of people's first car. It had the same engine as a MINI so it was easy to repair and you could get loads of spares. This cars claim to fame? It is the very same style car that was given a "DAMN GOOD THRASHING" by the great BASIL FAWLTY!

My Dad's first car was a Mini, but the second was an 1100. I remember it very well. Though I didn't know it was Basil Fawlty's car. Was his an estate version?

Best pic I could find on the net, though ours was green.

Basil Fawlty's 1100 was an estate.

I'm a bit too young to remember, but My Uncle having one until the early 1980s.

He mostly liked it apart from being a bit underpowered.

One time our 2 families were going on holiday together, & my uncle & family eventually turned up on they back of a low-loader as a big end had gone on the 1100.

It cost a lot to put right, but a year or 2 later he got a MkII Cortina.

My Dad had one briefly, in the mid 70s....his was white. I've got a couple of Matchbox ones, they have an Alsatian in the back with his head sticking out the rear door window and theres a driver in it too....they're old 'Superfast' one with the 'cool' faux suspension....

Thinking of classic old cars, you just don't see them on the road anymore do you....shame. But understandable. However, I bet you all remember the days in the 1980s even when you'd see Anglias, Cortinas, Capris, Austins, Triumphs, etc etc on the road or even parked somewhere....I still turn around and look back when I see a class car every now and again....

I think my uncle had one of these. Can't be 100% sure just remember it looking mini-ish but not being a mini. It was that much loved colour of the 70's, mustard, bleh.

We had a blue Datsun Cherry with the funny vents like fish gills on the side.
