  • Picture Book

This was one of the 'Watch With Mother' offerings in the 60's (along with Bill and Ben the flower pot men) - on Wednesdays I think. There was a woman reading stories from a big book with a string puppet dachshund to help her (he was called Sausage!). There was always a story about a girl called Busy Lizzie who had a magic flower on her dress - when she touched it I think her wishes came true. There was also always a story about a group of sailors called the Jolly Jack Tars. I can't remember any more. Can anyone else?

I remember Busy Lizzy who had magic wishes when she touched the flower on her dress but I don't remember the Jolly Jack Tars or indeed Picture Book - I'm not old enough. They must have shown Busy Lizzy again at a later date.

Only Alan Rothwell, lol. Nah, he's a nice fellah, he had a carpet shop in Stockport but it burned down, poor bloke. Much like his acting career.

I've seen him in lots of different things but would never have known his name. Do you know everyone in Stockport (note capital. )

Lol, it's not such a big place, but not everybody. For example, I don't know the members of 10cc. But I know a man who does.
