I liked some of their singles, like "Jump" and "Why Can't This be Love", but I never really got around to listening to their albums.
They did have a great guitarist though in Eddie Van Hal en.

yeah eddie rules. it was through his solo on michael jackson's 'beat it' that i got into van halen. in my humble opin', '1984' is their best album.

They were never the same once Dave Lee Roth left and the first Album was a hard album to match. Jamies crying, atomic punk, yiu really got me absolute classics.

Gotta disagree there! the dlr era was all good but the albums they did with sammy were also good 'right now' is one of the best songs van halen have ever done

I like Jump. Very cool keyboard solo mid-way into the song and the lead singer can certainly jump high. Like he does in the video.

Liked both DLR & Sammy,but Diamond Dave wins hands down,he was much more of a showman.Love his solo stuff.....Just a Gigolo & Going Crazy etc
