  • Unknown song late 60s early 70s

I am trying to find out a song I remember from the late 60s or early 70s, it got some radio play, possibly the pirate stations rather than radio 1. I can only remember part of the lyrics
and I think it went -"Father walked in the usual way, hadn't had a holiday for years..." and another part went "We're all going to the seaside if we can save enough money."
    Anyone got any ideas?

It definitely rings a bell with me, and I seem to remember it had quite a lot of airplay at one time, though I don't know either artist or song title. I'll try and find out.

The Monopoly ~ 'We’re All Going To The Seaside' (written by Raymond Froggatt) also recorded by Sheila & Clyde

Father looks tired as he walked through the gate,
hasn’t had a holiday for years.
Mother went to greet him like she always does,
      fighting back her overworked tears.
      (Chorus)
We’re all going to the seaside, the seaside, the seaside
We’re all going to the seaside,
If we can save enough money, money
Father said something but I couldn’t make it out
to try and bring a smile to her face.
Round about August, we’ll all take a rest
and go to a bright Summer place.
      Chorus
      Middle eight
Over and over, we say that we must take a holiday
Over and over, but how many years must we wait?
      Chorus
Paper mill chimneys reach high in the sky,
      everybody wishes they could fly.
Out of the smoke ‘cause they’re windows are broke
Watching their young years go by
      Chorus, end

      (The Monopoly, Polydor Records, 1967.
      A Terry Kennedy production)

Thanks for finally answering this. The song has been in my head for years, and I could not find out who made it, now I have heard it again and will download it to my ipod. I probably heard it in 1967 when I was 14 and I am sure I have not heard it since until today, so great to hear it again, thanks again
