I adored this number when I was a kid; jigging around to it at the school disco. The narrative of the track seems like a cheesy porn movie in hindsight, like a Judge Dread record or something?

I was wondering what happened to Meri and after Googling was saddened to discover tonight that she died age 53 in a car accident just over ten years ago. Grim.

Thanks for the kind words, Darren. I really enjoyed compiling those long-forgotten songs. I grew up listening to all those tunes on the radio, and actually the 60s/70s are my particular favourite eras for music. I never get tired of listening to songs from that era, as every song had a catchy tune, unlike much of the tuneless dross of today.

Wow, yes, I too remember Telephone Man by Meri Wilson. It was quite a suggestive little song too, wasn't it?

I seem to remember it was out around the autumn of 1977. The other songs that stay in my mind from that particular time was The Spy Who Loved Me by Carly Simon and Black is Black by La Belle Epoque. Loved David Essex's Cool Out Tonight too, which was out round about the same time but which, unfortunately, didn't get very high in the charts.

I used to absolutely LOVE Tina Charles. Very catchy pop songs. Pity she no longer releases records. She had a very unique voice, and I believe she was the one who sang on 5000 Volt's 1975 hit, "I'm On Fire".
