  • Defining songs of the 70's

What was your defining song from the 70's?

Crystal Ball by Styx was a big one for me.

I was named after the song Julie Anne so that must've been a defining moment I guess!

                So many to choose from....

The Sex Pistols "Anarchy", Mungo Jerry and "In the Summertime", Rod Stewart's "Maggie May", "Welcome Back" by John Sebastian... I could go on and on here...
                Old enough to know better...

The '70s took so many twists & turns musicwise that it's hard to pin down any one song as defining. I'd go for this few :
                  1. Another Day (Wings ) or Imagine ( Lennon & Yoko ). Kickstarted the post-Beatles era.
                  2. Anything by Slade or the Sweet, the height of Glam.
                  3. Puppy Love ( Donny Osmond ) Teenybop.
                  4. Night Fever ( Bee Gees) Disco era.
                  5. Anything early-SexPistols or Boomtown Rats. Bye-bye- disco, hello punk.

Whereas Duran got the whole 80s ball rolling.
Into the 5th Millennium & beyond...!

ahh!!! so many songs from the 70's but a few i remember from our school/youth club disco.....
i'm not in love --10cc,hated the song but one of the few chances you got to "smooch" with one of the girls you fancied in your year...
if you leave me now-- chicago(i think)--same reason as above!!!!!!
when i need love---leo sayer--same reason oh!! how sad was i in those days(still am)...
lots of others but just cant think of them off the top of my head.
how bout you lot,any school disco/youth club favs????

I'm a 70s fan that wasn't of disco / youth club age 'til the 80s so I had to be content with Adam & the Ants, the New Romantics, ska's etc. Blue Eyes by Elton John was the first smoochie that I got lucky to so that'd be my fav at the time !

                            Defining songs of the 70's

It would have to be Mouldy Old Dough by Lieutenant Pigeon and Son of my Father by Chicory Tip.

So many to choose from, but as far as genre goes I would choose:
Disco - The Hustle (Van McCoy)
Punk - Anarchy in the UK (Sex Pistols)
                              Rock - Anything by T-Rex
                              Pop - Dancing Queen (ABBA)
LIFE is a four letter word, but which one...?
