Not quite an ironic lyric, but something involving Sir Cliff Richard which I thought I would share:
In 1985 Mike Yarwood did a celebrity "old people's home" sketch for one of his Thames comedy shows, involving Bruce Forsyth and George Burns - the clip was repeated on Thames' End of the Year Show on New Year's Day in 1992 just before they were to hand over to Carlton. Cue Yarwood appearing as a youthful tennis-playing Cliff Richard:
"How old are you now?" asked one of the other characters.
"Seventy-eight", replied Cliff.
Now, the irony is that Cliff is indeed 78 now, and so at the moment, any comedic irony is now lost. Mind you, talking about Sir Cliff, was Bachelor Boy supposed to be ironic about his lifestyle?
