Nikita is a unisex name but in Eastern Europe/Russia it's usually given to males. To our ears, it does sound feminine though.

Jackie Wilson Said - Dexy's Midnight Runners.

I used to think that Jackie Wilson (if that what the song is named after) was a woman for many years just like a lot of Motown regulars, hence the spelling of his name, but he is a man, hence his inclusion on here.

Some more I have thought of:

Olivia Newton-John sung a song called Sam in 1977 - one assumes it was a Samuel and not a Samantha. Keith "Grocer Jack" West also had a song called Sam although I believe that it was a different song to ONJ's.

Martha Reeves and the Vandellas had a song called Jimmy Mack.

The Undertones also had song with that name - Jimmy, Jimmy.

I was just looking at an old thread just now, and it mentioned that Dionne Warwick song Message to Michael (one assumes Message to Martha with a male name). I think it was a Bacharach composition.

Excellent one, Richard - one assumes that Elton sung about someone with a boy's name because of his, shall we say, sexuality? (and I assume that this was certainly the case back in 1973?)

Mind you, I found it ironic when he realised "Kiss the Bride" when one thinks of the fact that he was front of the queue when same-sex marriages were legalised in 2014!

There was that disco song Fly Robin Fly, although I think they were singing about the bird in general rather than someone called Robin.
