Re: your 80's top 10
Excellent subject. I, too, could list a few hundred, but have forced myself to try and identify the songs which had the biggest impact on me at the time.
I've settled on;
Going Underground - The Jam
Enola Gay - OMITD
Don't You Want Me - Human League
Bedsitter - Soft Cell
Planet Earth - Duran Duran
Uncertain Smile (12" mix) - The The
Fields of Fire - Big Country
Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden
Oblivious - Aztec Camera
Photograph - Def Leppard
That leaves out Orange Juice, Spandau Ballet, Visage, Sheena Easton, Echo & the Bunnymen, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, the Cult, the Thompson Twins, Deacon Blue and the Teardrop Explodes, any one of which might provide two or three songs to an equally valid list.
And they're only the Brit acts! In the second half of the decade I listened almost exclusively to American rock bands from Kiss and Motley Crue through to Journey and REO Speedwagon.
Good times.

Seriously? I know they didn't make it that big in the US but so much of their stuff is of a much higher standard. How much have you heard?
