I liked The Teardrop Explodes 'Reward' as well, as it featured an Austin Champ, which I love (can't afford one though!)
It's difficult to give a single answer to this one, as there've been so many good ones and I can't remember them all now. Ultravox's 'Dancing With Tears In My Eyes' is scarey- it's an anti-nuclear song, the video tells the story of a nuclear power station where Midge Ure plays the Chief Physicist in charge. It goes into uncontrollable meltdown, and a massive nuclear explosion is inevitable, it can't be stopped. He drives home to be with his family, as escape from the blast would be impossible in the time left- on the way he sees a group of kids clustered around an ice-cream van. The alert siren goes and they flee in panic, one of them leaving her doll trodden into the wet gutter- haunting image.
I've always enjoyed Bronski Beat's videos, as they tell a story and aren't just iconoclastic images of the band doing things.
Never seen it, but the video for Kate Bush's song 'Experiment VI' was banned from Top Of The Pops for being too frightening....
Howard Jones's video for 'Your Song' was jolly and fun, celebrating life itself and all that can be had from it.
Neil Young's video for 'This One's For You' was very funny- it was a song criticising pop celebrities for getting involved in promoting commercial products, as Michael Jackson did for Pepsi Cola. It had Young singing whilst Michael Jackson was crawling across the stage behind him with his hair on fire!!
I always loved "Why" by Carly Simon. The ORIGINAL video featured dancers/gymnasts in it and I still have this on VHS but cannot find it on Youtube. It seems that Carly saw fit to redo her video for this but I have never understood "why".
