I'm just listening to it now for the very first time. I don't like it. It's also quite an accurate forcast of what was to happen on 9/11 in America. Spooky really.

I think the song was about nuclear war- "Here come the 'planes. They're American 'planes, made in America!" Interspursed with snippets of American kitsche names and phrases, to contrast the complacency and parochialism lived in by so many Americans against the backdrop of Superpower confrontation. Very creepy track- came out in 1980, when the years of Cold war detente were crumbling with the advent of Reagan and Thatcher.

Listen to the lyrics, its a very clever song. Consider the music that was in the charts around 1981 all synth music, this record was way way out there and obviously completely different to anything that had been done before or indeed has been done since
