  • Time and Tune

Anyone remember this, it still runs to this day but i would love to hear stuff from the 70s. It was a schools radio programme with a story and songs. We were all given books with the lyrics (and music for the piano playing teacher) and wonderful illustrations. I remember several stories:
Twig Witch : it went "tap tap Twig Witch rapatap Twig Witch, Twig Witch spirit of the chestnut tree". A little spindly sprit that lived in a tree!

    Toucan Joe.

Baron Munchausen (which for some reason I got confused with Bob Monkhouse?). "lets sing an adveture song, of things we would not dare to do, would you believe an adventure song, that couldn't be true"

    Re: Time and Tune

I remember Time and Tune so well. I have such lovely memories of listening to the broadcasts and following the words and music in a book. There is a thread somewhere on DYR that discusses it.

"The Tinder Box" "Robin Dhu" and "Return to Badlidreamt" all spring to mind or was that Music Workshop?? Wasn't T&T just a collection of songs from around the world? Cosher Bailey had an engine, it was always needing mending and according to her power she could do four mile an hour......yes! It's all coming back now....Let's sing a song bout Toucan Joe and how he flies so high so high and how he flies so high!

        Re: Time and Tune

I remember 2 stories from Time & Tune - Coppelia (I somehow still have the booklet - features the song "Come Now Lively Lads & Lasses" and a football themed one which I can't remember the title to only a song that went "Saturday afternoon we go to the game, it doesn't matter if it's sunshine and rain".

              Re: Time and Tune

My class at primary school followed the Time and Tune series The World Of Animals summer term 1979. Here are as many songs as I can remember from that series:

              One More River
              The Squirrel
              The Climate
              Tsssz
              Sea Lion Song
              Bought Me A Cat

There was a bit in the middle where the "song" was basically a list of animals arranged in verses, the first of which began:
              Aligator, hedgehog, anteater, bear
              Rattlesnake, buffalo, anaconda, hare

N.B. I don't have a copy of the Summer 1979 pupil's pamphlet in front of me, I've recalled the above completely from memory.

Below were the notes Doh Re Me So La Doh. The idea was so you could make up your own tunes / songs for Time and Tune.
              I am 13 ... times 4.

..... can't believe someone else remembers this, I was only 5 years old!!!

"Twigwitch a tree-spine mannequin ...... promise to share with him (blah blah blah) Twigwitch's adventures now begin"

                Chorus:
"Lets all join the treehouse trio, go adventuring with Twigwitch"

There was a similar programme called 'Singing Together', but I can't remember any of the songs.

Ahhh, I missed this thread so far as I didn't know the series was called Time and Tune. Looking at the list, these are the two I remember singing along to, particularly the pirates and smugglers one.

Autumn 1983 Trig Trog and the Christmas Children
                      Summer 1984 Pirates and Smugglers

I LOVED time and tune, singing together and music workshop! I became friends with Douglas Coombes and often went to broadcasting house and took part in the programmes in the 70's. I still have some of the recordings and many of the pamphlets too!

The football one that was mentioned is part of the Music Workshop series that was for an older age group. It was Will Wanderers Win? I only liked Rumplestilskin of that group of musicals we did at my school. More details: http://www.broadcastforschools.co.uk...Music_Workshop

Hi Scott777, Do you happen to have Twigwidge and the treehouse - I would love to get a copy of that, it's been an dim and distant image in my mind for decades, something I absolutely loved at the time and have never - up until this evening! - been able to work out what it was and what it was called. You have no idea what feelings I have right now!! Little things, etc I have done a quick search for it to see if I could buy it, but no luck. My Teacher at the time, Mrs Sansome (my favourite ever Teacher I might add) got us to make a picture of a Twigwidge using twigs on a large piece of paper and I think I had mine for some years after. Ahhhhh, the days of primary schoool....
