  • '70s board games still in production

Many games that were initially launched in the '70s have never gone away- they're still being made today, and remain as popular as ever. Also, some have been re-introduced in a 'retro' context after an absence of 20 years or more.
Two that have never left us are Connect 4 and Mouse Trap; Ker-Plunk and Twister have also reappeared after about two decades in the wilderness. Can anyone name any others?
(I would have included Cluedo as well, but just found out this actually came out in '65!!)

When were things like guess who invented? That is still around, although I noticed an electronic version being advertised which is just wrong.

I think its really funny that there is a current TV advert for the Hasbro toys at the mo! Some of you may have seen it, for Twister, Mousetrap, etc (advertises 5 games).

I find it funny and eerie at the same time, I mean, they were games I played in the 80s as a kid, and its funny to see them advertised for today's young generation as all I can visulise is that they are more into their Wii and consoles, etc. LOL, it would be rare surely to have kids of today play those boardgames nowadays?

              Thnx.LOL

hard to believe theyre still going and there just so basic as well.

Connect 4 started in 1974 and trivial pursuit surprisingly as early as 1979.

From what ive found out both are no longer in production.

The classic one has to be Snakes and ladders which usually has Ludo on the other side of the board

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

I'm pretty sure "Risk" was around in the 70s. The game is still around today in various more modern and revamped forms for shorter and versatile play, but the game I remember playing didn't have mission cards and such; the only objective was complete world domination.

Would take about 3 hours and at least 1 permanently damaged friendship to finish those original games if I recall correctly

I remember me & my brother were once given some games, including a set of Risk which were too young to understand how to play.
