I just had a look at your previous link Heather and was more horrified now of the Purple People eater as an adult than i was as an 8 year old. how grotesque and scary is that?! now I know why it was taken off the shelves lol gr8 bit of nostalgia there

As you randomnly draw the tiles (like Scrabble) then no two games will ever be the same. Added tension is due to the fact that you must be in & out of the dungeon (with treasure ideally!) before the sun has set (sun counter moves on one space after all players have had their turn)

...........3.Hard one because I don't think it's a mainstream game. I think it was made by a fantasy game company but it is not hero quest or anything like that. It involved moving nice painted figures around a board. You had to put square tiles on the board which mapped out your route. Sometimes you would draw a tile with had a bottomless pit!. The aim of the game was to get to the middle and take treasure from a dragon. Difficult I know but give it a go........

Ouch! I never liked Monopoly: it took too long and because of that acquired too many "house rules" that varied from family to family (causing rows when you played with friends outside your own family)
Yet it is inflicted upon generation upon generation, and now collectors too are exploited by myriad "special editions".

    So many property games...
    My top three:
Manhattan (OK, with Godzilla variant from time to time)
Ransom (as a portable travel card game, especially)
and top of all, Ravensberger's Metropolis
    Metropolis | BoardGameGeek
Nice pieces, cooperation and competition, and good playing length.
(Big City and Chinatown came later but got a little more complex, a plus or minus according to your game-playing taste.)

Yes I had that game Spy Ring, I sat in my bedroom opening my sack on christmas morning thinking why the hell would santa bring me such an obscure and difficult game, I think i was far too young at 8. did it also feature certain defunct airlines such as Pan Am too?
I always wanted "purple people eater" but i didnt get this. also got a game about hotels, anyone remember than one?

Pizza Power Game, but I also remember "tower of doom" (a turtles version of Kerplunk).

I also remember "search for shredder", I didn't have it but I would play it with my classmates.

Was there a re-write or another game of the same name?
My copy of Spy Ring has the radio aerials for hats, and large code cards to make "Fish" out of, but no microfilm...

    Ah:
"The newer (1970's) version of the game changed in quite a few ways, but still bore a great resemblance to the original. The newer version was more of a race to collect a set of secrets (reading them using a "decoder"), and the contact man became a bodyguard for your spy."

Being older, I have the pre-70's version!

Just number 3 we need to find now. It might be difficult because like I said it was probably made by one of these companies that are famous for fantasy based games.

    1. Yes, I do recall, 'Spy Ring' (I think) but there was also 'Microdot' where the print on the cards was supposedly so small, you needed a magnifying glass to read it!
