Re: fave, best game openings, endings.

When I think of game endings the one that always comes to mind for me is Final Fantasy VII. I’ve said on here before that it is my favourite game of all time, I doubt anything else will ever come close to beating it, certainly not for me anyway. Looking back I realise that it would have been around thirteen years ago to this very month when I first started reading about it in CVG, man how time flies.

Anyway, the following clip takes place after the actual ending to the game. You come to the end of disc three, beat the boss and the main ending rolls. Then the credits run and once they are done the following movie, based 500 years in the future, then plays: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2srKV5WTRk

While it may not seem like much to those who aren’t too familiar with the game, it really serves as poignant, farewell scene to the story. Seeing one of the main game locations 500 years into the future all overgrown and taken over by nature was such an awesome scene. When I think back at the whole story, the characters, the settings and the music, watching that scene still sends a shiver up my spine.

Also, have to mention the first ending to a game I ever saw, although my mate completed it and not me! :

16 yrs old and still the best in the series.
only very slight fault is its easy.everything else music etc makes it a legend in games.
i feel very sad almost in tears when the big one dies.

Can't disagree with FF7. I completed the PC version a few years ago and felt a genuine sense of loss when it was over.

One more springs to mind - and this is going back a bit further: the Amiga version of The Secret of Monkey Island. That final reel where Guybush Threepwood "kicks ***" was brilliant!

I do still have one of the original Playstation consoles mate yeah, however I stupidly decided to swap my original copy of FFVII a few years ago. I kick myself looking back now but I did manage to get another copy, really wish I had just kept my original version though. I was a bit of a bugger for swapping games every five minutes when I was younger but I've learned to cherish the games that really meant the most to me and have managed to re-acquire some of the classics.
