Re: What do you collect?
I heard that when EMI stopped making 78's in the UK the presses were sent to India, as there still was a demand for them.
The Beatles singles were released on 78's in India, & I guess some other big acts on EMI's roster.

Re: What do you collect?
Very true Richard, the problem with 78's when it comes to selling, particularly older ones (some of mine went back to 1912), is they are only worth what people are prepared to pay. Certainly the big names from the late 40's and 50's can attract more money but not as much as one would expect (go on ebay and take a look) 78's were deleted in 1965 and if you can get your hands on a Beatles one then you've got an instant Pension Plan.....providing you don't drop it!

Re: What do you collect?
Until about a 10-15 years ago there was a 2nd hand shop in Stockport that specialised in 78's.Originally posted by darren View Postyour 1959 Philips Disc Jockey Major has sure had a long life it sure im betting had a long working life.
you only got a quid for 1 hundred of them.
seems very poor to get so little.
ive records too and ive nothing to play them on either not worried as they look superb.
I've heard that the ones worth looking out for are the later ones by Rock & Roll era artists, as they were pressed up in smaller numbers than 45's by that stage, & harder to find by collectors trying to get a complete run of singles by an artist.
Supposedly the last UK 78 by Elvis Presley had a press run of about a 100 copies, & probably available by special order only.

I built up a considerable collection but lost interest in my early 20's. I experienced a rennaisance around 2004 when I opened an account on ebay and had alot of them delivered by post, despite their fragility most of them arrived intact. I pruned my collection last year and sold about a hundred as a job lot on ebay. I got a quid for them! I have a nucleas now mainly Elvis, Sinatra, Kitt & others from that era. Alas my 1959 Philips Disc Jockey Major died last year so I have nothing to play them on now....tbh...I couldn't care less!

Re: What do you collect?
I don't have any of the wireless card set you mentioned. I will probably be breaking up my cigarette card collection next year and putting it up for sale on e-bay.Always liked the cards showing wildlife especially Birds. I will keep my tea cards as many of the sets I collected as a child.
