I remember getting hold of my first blue MG 1100 (Matchbox version) in the early '80s. I bought it from a boot fair and it wasn't in mint condition, but I liked it, because I was (and still am) a big fan of everyday saloon cars of the late '60s, '70s, and '80s, and I hadn't owned that model sooner. Since then, I've bought several Matchbox MG 1100s including mint condition versions. I don't tend to play with them now though.
"We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner!"
I had the DAF Girder Truck, Greyhound Bus, Site Office Truck, and the Fire Chief Car. I also had the white police car which was similar to the Fire Chief Car. My mom painted it to resemble an LAPD black-and-white for me!
I've only just remembered my Dad used to come home from work sometimes with Matchbox catalogues - they were the early 80's ones - wish I still had them now.
I've got both versions of the MG1100, the earlier green and later metalic blue, but I've got a couple of the blue ones as I just like them the same way Austin Maxi said...A while back I bought the rare Truck with Site Hut with the superfast wheels in perfect condition for a few quid in my local retro shop...Can't go there anymore - as I was BANNED LOL.
Something I only recently realised was that although there were at least 6 truck models sporting the 'Ergomatic cab', as in life they weren't all Leyland. I can't remember which were which but there was definately Leyland, Albion, and AEC if you looked closely!

Yes i remember, The Yellow cabbed eight wheeler tipper was an AEC, The little blue pipe truck was a Leyland, and the Green cabbed eight wheeler BP tanker was also a Leyland.
Until very recently I had a box full of about 35 or 40 Matchbox cars which were mostly from the early/mid 1970's, and all but a few still in their original boxes. Finally I decided a few months ago while starting to clear out for an upcoming long-distance move that as they'd been sitting in a box and barely even looked at for 30 years or more it was time to let them go. I figured I'd probably get "a few pounds" for them on eBay. They ended up fetching about £160.
