Know its not much to go on!!!

My husband has been talking about a toy/game/puzzle he had as a kid (prob mid 80's). It consisted of Red /balck shapes which could be manipulated / folded into different images/object ie the sphinx

Now I have no idea and i know its not much to go on but if anyone can name it we'd be really thankful!!

Rubik's Snake possibly? Though you say it had images on it so probably not.

I had one and I cannot remember what colour it was. I didn't play with it much.

Actual description was not too accurate (to say the least!!)
It was a Shinsei Mystery - courtesy of his sister - but when i saw the photo I knew what it was and did think it was a 'rubik' toy!!
