  • Toy value

    Hi

Is there any easy way to find out what old toys are worth now? Does anyone on here know the value of lots of old toys?

I've got a number of old toys from the 90s and I have no idea what they're worth, if anything.

I have found one or two items but the prices I've found aren't helpful. For example, one toy I have is/has been on ebay. It's at $90ish on ebay US and one has sold recently for £0.99 plus postage on ebay UK and they are the only two I can find online anywhere. A couple of other toys have been sold on ebay UK but all from the US with very high postage so it's hard to say if people are including postage in the value of the item or if it would sell for the same price in the UK but with less shipping.

For the rest I can't even find a mention of them online.

I'm happy to list the items (and add some photos if needed). Would like to know if any of them are worth something, but just don't seem to be getting anywhere searching online.

    Thanks.

In the case of only two examples I would find a median price and value it at that. In your example I would value it at £30 ($46).

Thanks for replying. I thought about going in the middle, but for that one is a sold item and the other is still for sale and in the US not UK. Values can be very different between countries and with rarer items it's harder to know if a seller is charging more than it's actually worth. Although no harm in asking for more and seeing if it sells I suppose.

Is there any easy way to value my other items?

I have a couple of dolls houses and little playsets and have no clue of their value.

That's very true because I've shipped a lot of stuff to Australia where it seems that almost everything is hard to find there. That's because Australia is not heavily industrialised so a lot of things have to be imported -- more so than the UK or US.

            Thanks

90 dollars rather than quid, but indeed that still would be good lol.

To be more specific, the item is a school house by Spectra from 1989. One sold on ebay UK for 99p, different colour roof and no flag. Not sure if it had everything else with it. For some weird reason I can't find the US one anymore for sale or sold. There are two similar versions though; one being Barney the dinosaur (odd for a school) and the other is a Fisher Price one.

The dolls houses include "My Dream House" with a stupidly large amount of furniture. It does not appear to be the more popular Fisher Price version as the people with it are different but aside from that it's very close and possibly has more items with it. No clue what make it is though

I also have another which is plastic and you can take it apart. I just realised I read the make slightly wrong so just looking it up again lol. It's by Blue Box 1980. Found a similar one on ebay UK, but they think it's from the 60s. US seems to sell the same version I have but prices vary a fair bit. So still not sure how much mine is worth lol.

I then have two little Playmates Takara sets (from 1993 I think). One is a bedroom with 3 bears and the other is a kitchen with 3 dogs.

I'll have to have more of a google to see if I can find any local toy dealers/collectors.

Yeah. I had someone recently asking about a couple of toys I had for sale who was from Australia. Seems they buy loads from over here in the UK. Was wondering why they bought so much from elsewhere, but that explains it lol.

Funny that you mention Blue Box. When I was a kid I saw in a toy shop a secret agent playset by Blue Box that I had wanted but never got. I'm still looking for one. In the late '90s, early 2000s Blue Box (now called BBI or Blue Box International) was known for their highly detailed 1:6 scale action figures like this one.

Oh right. I can understand why you wanted one of them lol. I can't say I've ever heard of Blue Box before - until recently I never really looked at the make of the toys I have and can't say I paid any attention to stuff like that as a kid.

Anyone recognise these and have any idea of their value?

I assume there were other rooms available too with different animal families, but don't know for sure. Never seen any others lol.

IIRC Blue Box seemed to be a budget brand of toys, I'm sure I had 1-2 things made by them.

Most likely. No idea how much the dolls house was that I have, but can't imagine it was overly expensive.

The My Dream House dolls house that I have has some sort of logo underneath. No brand that I can see. The logo has two kids in a square. I looked up the Fisher Price logo and found another - it looks a little like the logo of Little People, but less kids. If it were that surely it would state the brand though? If it's not that, which I'm sure it's not, what is it?

Someone who deals in toys gave me a great piece of advice. He said that collectibles and indeed most things are only worth what someone wants to pay for them.
It sounds obvious but when you think about it helps to know what is paid for items in real sales and auctions. People tend to think that if something is rare or unusual it will be worth loads but unfortunately it doesn't always work that way. Prices fluctuate according to tastes and trends even with collectibles. You can't say that if something is highly collectible now it always go up in value the longer you hold onto it. Basically its a bit of lottery but you can get an idea of whats 'in' fashion by checking internet sales and asking the people in the know. Good luck and don't be too upset if you're valued collectible isn't as valuable as you think it should be. It rarely is.

Agreed, but I have 2 problems with that. First, I want to sell the items and need to state a price,I'm not selling them anywhere that I can ask what are you willing to pay. I need some idea of what people will pay before I try and sell them. Second, half the toys I own aren't on the internet (or at least, not that I've found after hours of searching). They may be worthless, but judging by the ones I have found some may be worth a few quid. Doubt any are worth a lot, but I don't want to give something away for 50p if it's worth £5+, for example.

I actually didn't think any of what I owned as far as toys go were of any value. Looked up a couple of things out of interest, found they were worth more than I thought and figured I should probably double check the rest lol. If any of it's worth more than 50p I'm happy lol.
