Can anyone help me to identify this piece of Lego for a friend please?
As far as they can recall it was bought from a carboot sale in the mid to late 90,s

Looks similar to a piece I got in a Lego Mindstorms Star Wars Droid Developer kit, so it might be from a similar set.
