                Its an SPV ( Spectum Patrol Vehicle ) From Captain Scarlett ( that's him in the drivers seat ).......this one is a more recent model from 1993...not one of the original 60's ones.

                  It took me years to realise these were driven backwards, it's something I never even noticed during the 1990s repeats.

                  On the Capt Scarlet DVD features Gerry Anderson mentions in retrospect it was an idea too far. Supposedly it's safer to travel in reverse, but not good if you have problems with being travel sick though!

                        The concept dates back to World War II. German armored scout cars had two driver's seats. One in front and the other in the back so that the vehicle could be driven backwards in the event that they needed to make a quick egress.
