Transforming Rocks?

I need help remembering a toy I used to have,

would have been between '86 and '89 I think

they were like transformers, but changed from a rock type object approx 2-3" cubed, into a monster type person?!?

A family friend had one of these, it was the cause for much hilarity for my brother and myself! A robot that turns into ............ a rock! Nothing useful like a car or a plane, no, a rock!
