  • Name of a game...tools and hooks?

Can anyone tell me the name of a game I played in my childhood with the family? There were these little plastic spades/saws etc. and you had to throw them in the air so they landed in a heap. Then you had a little hook taking it turns to try and get one of these things out of the pile without moving any of the others. I think the idea was to get the impliment with the highest score out first but it drove me mad as you needed a steady hand and lots of patience of which I had neither and I just wanted to swipe them all on the floor in frustration!

Sounds a little like the game Jaws, but without the Shark Was the hook magnetic or did the objects have small hoops on them?

Bugger. i had this game too, but can't remember the name.
was one of those cheapo mini boxed games..tiny plastic "action man" sized tools and a picker.
the name will come, but i've just woken up
Basically it was 'pick up sticks', but with tools

The hook wasn't magnetic and I don't think the other things had hooks which made it more frustrating because you had to sort of try and slide the blinking things out which was near on impossible!! But I do remember the saws and things were just a plain beige colour.

I think your right with that one we did have some spears games.

I wonder if there were several types of this game with different names and I shall never know what my one was called Aghh!!

The plastic tools were just that, and the pick up device was a plastic handled metal hook (like the thing dentists use to scrape teeth)

I found out what it was called!! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I kept thinking of tools rather than sticks so did a google of pick up sticks game and wickepedia had a whole list of names for this game and there it was...Jack Straws.

                Phew!!

                        Holy ****! I 'd forgotten about these!

We used to play the Merit version (well, one with coloured plastic bits) at Infant school, normally when it was raining too much outside so it was indoors playtime!
