    Re: Toys that scared you

    what a super story

i can imagine the look on ther faces when u showed them the ET doll after all these yrs.

you go all the way to canada/america to get the doll.

i can imagine what u thought when u saw it hehe.

i was only ever afraid of that fisher price green faced jack in the box.
    it really looked evil.

did not like this one either.

Then on my recent travel to Canada/America I found a small wind up ET, so I bought it and when we were out celebrating my return back to Australia, I pulled it out of my bag, and placed it on the table, the girls now being 21 and 24 both told me off and threw it in the bin.......love that ET made such a lasting impression on them lol

      Re: Toys that scared you

One toy I used to find freaky was a ride on car my friend's sister had.

On the front was the usual car "face" (headlights for eyes, radiator grille for mouth etc), this was on a bonnet that lifted up to reveal a sad face made to look like an engine.

For some reason I found this a bit weird when I was 6-7.

Clowns are bloody scary, I don't blame you for that one.

Yes, so much they are, and more so I remember my Mum had put the clown on top of the wardrobe when she knew I was scared of it, naturally she thought it was out of sight, but I could certainly still see it..

Not quite out of sight and definitely not out of mind.

I had a ventriloquist dummy called Mr Parlanchin when I was about 12 early 70s see below.
Now I use to get on with him....I think I must of watched an old black and white film about a dummy that walked of its own accord.....that turned me against him...of a night time we put him in my bedroom wardrobe and I swear, I could hear him moving about I just couldn't get too sleep.
I imagined I could hear him whimpering in the wardrobe, then I thought he had somehow gotten out of the wardrobe and was walking down the hallway in the dark I could hear the floorboards creeking. ....(I suspect it was the central heating.)
its hard to believe now but he did scare me!

                    Whoa Romany,

I just read your story then clicked on the pic.
What a face, I find it fairly scary now !

As a child there is no way I would have had that in my bedroom, I would have never been able to sleep.

See what I mean.....and I thought it was just me....I certainly wasn't in the mood to practise my "Gottle of Geer" routine with him around.

Mr Parlanchin was mentioned on here a few years ago, I've never seen one for real, but he looks creepy.

The Fisher Price Jack In A Box was quite freaky, being a clown that made a strange wailing sound when the lid popped open. I remember my Mum didn't like the one my cousin had for just the reason.
