Can anyone remember 'cap rockets' - these were like plastic rockets 5cms or so long, with a metal plate inside (10p size) and a metal nose pin. You put a cap from a cap gun between the pin and the metal plate and threw it. On impact the cap popped.
The earlier forerunner was the nut and bolt bomb. We used two identical bolts and one nut. Again a toy cap was cut out and placed between the tow bolt ends, which were in turn screwed one thread turn into either side of the nut. Tightened and thrown. On impact there was enough pressure from the pop to 'blow apart' the two bolts. Great fun until the thread got stripped off and wouldn't screw together anymore.
Not sure Heath & Safety would allow today?!?!?
Would be interested to know if it was a local thing (Cambridgeshire)?
