I remember seeing the cartoon earlier in the year that I got the music box! So I'd say 86-88

            Re: 1980s music toy

This suggestion has come up on 3 message boards. It is very similar to Candy Candy. It has the blonde girl and the orphan theme but not the little dog! Candy was from 1979 and someone told me that its success spawned a series of animé/manga cartoons with a similar theme : Blonde orphan girl.
I really really thought it was Candy at first. It looked so familiar : Her being an orphan and raised by the nuns back 100 years ago.

The dog is the key. I know that the dog was an important part as it features on the music box, so it must have been her companion in the cartoon.

She didn't have a dog, but Candy Candy had a racoon named Clynn. And a dog called Mina is mentioned later in the series..

Someone on another board made a few suggestion and provided this link
                  http://www.nipponanimation.com/catalogue/index.html

I am amazed at how many similar little blonde orphan animé programs there were!

Still I can't find this blooming dog!

I was sure I just posted an unhappy face here, was it deleted? Is this not allowed?

Yes it was deleted, it didn't really contribute anything to the thread.

I apologise. I disagree that it did not contribute but rules are rules and we must not break them.

I have been searching through the animé links. It still hasn't shown up but I'm sure it will. Thanks everybody for the help.
