He starred in A Clockwork Orange 1971 and a little known film where he starred as a wicked German Officer - made in 1979 called The passage.

McDowell also took the lead in the 1973 film "O Lucky Man", which had some memorable music specially written by Alan Price. Other than A Clockwork Oraange, McDowell's other famous film appearance was in "If" in 1968. Both this and "O Lucky Man" were directed by Lindsay Anderson. "If" occasionally gets a TV airing, but, as far as I can see, never "O Lucky Man", which while no great shakes as a film, was good fun nonetheless.

when I was about 11 I had a massive crush on Elizabeth Sladen who played and still does play Sarah Jane Smith at that time the Doctors assistant.
I must admit she still looks good for her age and it's nice to see her back in that role (probably the only thing she has done)

The more films I see starring Johnny Depp the more I am convinced he is a fine actor. Also like Harrison ford, Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, Glynis Barber, Eliza Dushku but Chris Walken is one of my faves.

I did like him in many of his other roles, and have been enjoying watching 'Redcap' on DVD lately, but it's as Jack Regan that I think we saw the best of him.

It's interesting to find that many actors improve as they age. I'm thinking particularly of John Travolta who did some cringeworthy stuff in his early career but has made some great films in the 90s onwards.
