Can't help with the original question, I'm afraid, but like most children of the 1970's I remember the "Protect & Survive" films:

It's genuinely chilling to watch those isn't it... knowing just how close we came. It's the matter-of-factness
about them that kept me awake at night when I first saw them.

A film with a similar storyline is:

          Blast From the Past (1999)

          http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0124298/

Romantic comedy about a naive man who comes out into the world after being in a nuclear fallout shelter for 35 years.

Starring: Brendan Fraser, Alicia Silverstone Christoher Walken

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

I seem to have forgotten about this thread for a bit! Yes, I saw Blast From The Past too, Twocky61 - really enjoyed it. Wonder what Brendan Fraser is up to these days..?I've tried posting about this elsewhere, but it seems to have everybody stumped - which is a pity. Imagine being a budding film-maker who, after years of trying to scrape together the funding for a project they've nursed through film school finally gets to realise their vision and make that short film... only for it to be seen by a handful of people then quickly forgotten.Perhaps the film-makers themselves read this forum..? If so, please, please get in touch so we get this short the recognition it deserves! Also, to narrow things down a bit, I ought to mention that the film I saw it in front of was a U or PG certificate.

THE MYSTERY HAS FINALLY BEEN SOLVED!
              by williampurry over at imdb.

It's The Best Ever Nuclear Fall out Shelter (1987) http://explore.bfi.org.uk/4ce2b79c9154d . No Trace of it online, sadly, but I'm satisfied that this is the one.

Phew! That puts an end to years of googling, searching and head scratching. I want to say a big Thank-you to all who have shown an interest and tried to help, both here and on all the other forums I have posted on!

That's it! Slightly different to how I remembered it, but that's definitely the one. Thanks for sharing! I can get on with my life now...
