another good zombie one is the beyond by lucio fulci.

cool i'll definitely check them out sometime, i've seen the VHS covers for Antropophagus and House on the Edge of the Park, before on my google images explorations, seen The Prowler before too, that one was ok.


a couple of decent zombie films i'd recommend also would be 'Nightmare City', 'Hell of the Living Dead', 'City of the Living Dead' (aka The Gates of Hell), and Lucio Fulci's 'The House By The Cemetery'

Another great film that is not that well known is 'The Final Terror'. Its a sort of backwoods stalk and slash movie. Also 'Communion' which stars a very young Brooke Shields.

Cheers for the reply on the unknown film Moondog but unfortunately, it wasn't Puppet Master. I do remember looking at those films back in the days of that video rental shop though, they had some fantastic covers. The Puppet Master movies are a series I will have to get round to watching someday.

I have a feeling that original movie I was on about was a straight-to-video, low budget affair. I have never seen it anywhere else than that rental shop all those years ago, to be fair though even though I was intrigued by its cover, it gave me the impression that it can't have been too good a film. The only other thing I remember was that one of the toys was an evil-looking bear and they seemed to be peeping or making their way out of the kid's closet.

Yes both are quite good have them both on video.

another one i really like is the forest.

yes its good and gory.
but i prefer the films of that other italian master dario argento.

his films have much less blood but are far more atmospheric.
and its atmosphere i prefer to goryness.

films like phenomena and inferno are not that gory but do have atmosphere.

his films have superb music done by italian rock group goblin
another good eighties obscurity is contamination story about two astronauts that go to the mars polar cap and find a cave which is full of green eggs.

yrs later they are saw on earth and help is sought from one astronaut who when he told what he saw after he came back was laughed at.

the astronaut however brought them back in secret.

Ones that I remember from the 80's are:- The Shinning (Jack Nicholson - here's Johnny), The Exterminator, Friday 13th 1 & 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead. All these gave me the creeps made worse by watching them at night and was scared to go to bed

The Shining is my absolute favorite. This is just me but I love the 1920s and 1930s atmosphere of the film, especially the music. One of the creepiest images from The Shining has got to be this one:



As for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre films, I remember seeing Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and it put me off chili for at least six months.

Demonic Toys?

I just checked out Demonic Toys on IMDB Moondog and that must have been it, I've done a bit of searching myself but past Puppet Master, Child's Play and Demonic Toys, I've not come up with too much else. I see an evil bear among the cast of characters there so I'm pretty sure that must be the one. Good work, fella!

i just watched one last night called Brain Damage (1988), and there's a scene where Duane from Basket Case makes a cameo, sitting opposite the main character on a train, holding his wicker basket lol

not a bad film though.

one thing i found strange though is they refer to the parasite in the film as Aylmer, an old guy corrects Brian when he thinks it Elmer, but on the end credits it says "Elmer created by..."

Does anyone remember when the Daily Mail newspaper had their 'Ban The Video Nasties' (or 'Ban The Sadist Videos' or whatever it was they called it) in the early or mid-80's?
Actually when I come to think of it it could've just been a ruse to sell more copies of the paper.
They described scenes from films like 'Snuff', 'Driller Killer', 'I Spit on Your Grave' and 'Nightmares in a Damaged Brain' in such graphic detail that those who weren't in a position to buy a VCR probably bought the paper just to read about these films, and kids who weren't allowed to watch that sort of thing by their parents probably wanted to read about it as well.
Does anyone remember the old ratings in the cinema? They were U, A, AA and X but they changed it all to U, PG, 15 and 18 when video came along. Does anyone remember the introduction of the 'Restricted 18' rating which was just for porno films?

I was a bit too young at the time, but over the years I have managed to pick up original copies of many of the nasties, and other pre cert horror stuff.
Some of those videos go for ridiculous amounts these days.
I know a few other members on here are also collectors.
