The only film I ever saw with both my Mum and Dad. I was 13 and soooooo the target audience I bought the double LP soundtrack with my birthday money months before it came out and devoured every bit of news!
Ah, the original release of Star Wars (before this episode IV nonsense) way back in 1977 when I were a mere 6 years old! (I think it was at the Odeon in Saaaarfend).
Bearing in mind this was when cinema's were old converted theatres so you queued out the front on the street. It was the first time I had ever seen the queue for a film go all the way from the front of the cinema, up the road and round some corners!
You'd walk up the stairs to the ticket office (box) then go to the small snack kiosk on the right to get popcorn and drinks, then up the lush staircase to the upper causeway. They'd have cutouts and smaller pictures up of scenes from the film and you'd buy a "programme" of the featured film, full of pictures and info about the "main feature".
After entering the theatre in which the film was to be shown, we sat on the right side (left was the smoking side), choosing seats not behind tall people as the slope wasn't as big then. We then had to endure the 1st short film (before trailers) and the dodgy local ads (car buyer, tandoori just down the road etc) before the main film came on. I had never seen anything like it! I was truly hooked from that day on.
Oh, and the lady came round halfway through with the tray selling choc ices and kia-ora for those who had already scoffed their food!
Yep, I rememember going to see Star Wars all those years ago, been a fan ever since.
