last night there was a film on called " a night on the town " .
this film was called " adventures in babysitting " when i was a lad.

I watched 'The Longest Yard' a few nights ago , this was made in 1974

But I remember seeing it in the pictures at the time and it was then called 'Mean Machine'

I know of a couple of Laurel & Hardy films that had different titles.

Fraternally Yours was aka Sons of the Desert
March of the Wooden Soldiers was aka Babes in Toyland

Think this was an English/American thing.

You might just have something there Steve !
A title that 'flows' here may not 'hit the spot' across the Pond

Though after Wikipedia-ing The Long Yard and Mean Machine it appears that Mean Machine was a 2002 remake 'based' on the Long Yard.

            Re: film title change

My info on the remake came from our friends at IMDB -

            http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0291341/

so there definately was a remake - but with your evidence Danny, maybe the reason was the one Steve suggested, different titles for UK and US !

              Re: film title change

after a bit or research the adventures in babysitting title was dropped because it could be interprated as something perverted....

                  Re: film title change

A couple I have noticed here:

                  "Airplane" is called "Flying High"
"13 going on 30" is called "Suddenly 30".

There are probably many more but I haven't noticed.

                    Re: film title change

I think the Laurel and Hardy film 'The Flying Deuces' was in UK as 'Beau Chumps'

                    Or maybe not....

Actually they're two different films, although both set in the foreign legion.

Not to do with films but similar concept: -

                        'Wheres Wally ?' in UK

                        'Wheres Waldo ?' in USA
