The acting leaves a lot to be desired (apart from Mason who is excellent) but ahead of its time for special effects and scenery IMO. The film was re-made more recently with Brendan fraser but it couldn't hold a light to the original
Agreed that the best version is the one with James Mason.

Obviously the movie, being a fictionalised drama of a real event, took things further into the aspect of time travel

And also it sticks true to the book... You'd be surprised what I have read and watched through two pregnancies.Originally posted by staffslad View PostI would recommend anyone who likes Aliens to try to see the extended version. It has extra scenes set on LV426 regarding the colonists finding the alien eggs, plus scenes that help to explain why Ripley is drawn to Newt and risks so much to rescue her.

A few films "inspired" by Alien:
Titan Find aka Creature Stars Klaus Kinski
Galaxy of Terror Featuring Joanie from Happy Days and nasty alien worm rape scene
Forbidden World (not to be confused with Forbidden Planet)
Inseminoid A British production with Judy Geeson and helmed by Norman J Warren
Alien 2: On Earth Absolutely nothing to do with the Ridley Scott film, rather a quickie Italian production to cash in on the Alien title and released on video in the UK as Alien Terror in the early 80s

Re: some of my favourite lesser known Sci fi films.
WE don't talk about Alien resurrection just one of those things we need to move on from. Considering Alien was released five years before my birth I feel it is an iconic movie in many ways for the screen play and character development and the suspense. Aliens makes me laugh but in a good way Michael Biehn... Wow!!! But this is all pre-CGI just a class couple of films.Originally posted by staffslad View PostAliens was a brilliant sci-fi action film. I saw it at the pictures back in 1986 and it blew me away. Alien is also very good indeed, but trades the all-out action for tension, suspense and shock--it's a slasher set on a spaceship. Sadly, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection were nowhere near the quality of the first two films imo.
Trog (1970) One of Mommie Dearest herself's last films about a semi-human creature living in a cave. Crawford plays a scientist studying the creature.

You might be mixing it up with Blade Runner, that was based on the Dick story, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.Originally posted by Caitlyn View PostI thought it may have been by Philip K Dick but not sure. Thanks.
