  • Uncertain show,70's.

    Hi everybody.
I have come here in hope that someone can point me in the right direction to Identify a program I can remember from the 70's.My memory of it is very vauge and I do not have much to go on.

I think it may of been a childrens drama, possibly with links to king arthur. The main thing I can remember is an image of a gloomy hill possibly with trees on it and something about "The sleepers under the hill".The only other thing I can remember is a boy looking or entering into the hill/tomb to find skeletons or bones in it.I think this hill played quite a bit in the program.I can remember it on tv back sometime in the 70's but not much else.Quite strange really as I can remember many childrens drama's from that period, but not this one.

I thought it may of been a tv play of the Grey King by Susan Cooper from the book published in 1975,but I think I have drawn a blank and cannot find any information about this show.

    Can anyone help?

I would love to know your thoughts on this.

          Not sure Hun
Certainly sounds like Susan Cooper's Dark Is Rising Sequence, but don't think any of them were turned into TV shows in the 70's, unless it is the Jackanory episode

            Hi,
I do not think this was to do with Jackanory.I can remember action in it so it was not a read out story with pictures.Simular feeling to children of the stones only much more menacing, that is why I remember the part about the hill and the sleepers. But that is pretty much all I do remember. It sort of reminded me of Susan coopers work, but it could of been something following along simular lines.

                Hi,
I can remember the Changes and even caught up on a few episodes recently so again it's another dead end.I even looked at the Moon stallion just in case and the same there.Nothing really seems to match.
Raven I have some partial memories of,but they are all good ones.I would love to own that drama on DVD,but it seems to have had a very limited release last year with copys going for stupid money now. It's not listed amongst the companys other DVD's on their web site.Very high double figures in one case on the net.
The program would of been on before we moved house so pre1978 is a strong possibility.Beginning to wonder if it is a mixture of diffrant memories that seems to have got mixed up somehow, but it all seems so strong a memory for that.

Not sure where you're looking, but the DVD is still available from Network's website for £10.

I checked Network for it about 2 days ago and it was not there then.Looked under drama, childrens drama etc even done a search and drew a blank. But it seems to be there now???????.Wonder if they take down DVD'S when they run out of stock then put them back onto their online cataloge when they have them back in stock? At least I can get a copy of Raven now.

Any more ideas about this possible show anybody?

I understand that Over Sea, Under Stone was a Jackanory Playhouse, i.e. acted out.

If it was a jackanory playhouse then 1972-1977 period would seem about right.Do you have any more information on this version of Over sea, under stone?

if its the same program i can remember something about this....the hill kept willing him back there with haunting music...something like clannad the irish band would do!..and did the boy find a round tray or shield and took it away from the hill.

there was an older girl in it too i think...perhaps thats why the haunting music was calling him....to return the shield...the music was a cross between clanad and gregorian... like monks would sing.
