There was a programme which I think was from the late 70's. A husband and wife solve a crime, possibly a murder, it ran over a few weeks and the big thing about it was that even the cast and crew didn't know who the guilty party was till the very end. The male lead was Martin Jarvissy but not Martin Jarvis and the theme tune I think was later used on some schools and colleges prog or interlude.

Don't think it's any of those. Wilde Alliance sounded promising but I think they tackled a different mystery/crime each week. What I remember was one crime that lasted the series to crack and it even made the press that none of the cast knew who was the who in the whodunit.

I've discovered that Season 2 of 'Breakaway', subtitled 'The Local Affair' used the cast kept in the dark gimmick. http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0296314/?ref_=ttep_ep_tt
