Despite popular misunderstanding, there never was any character named Juliet Bravo in the show. The name of the show is the inspector's radio call sign "J-B", or Juliet Bravo in the phonetic alphabet as practised in European nato states.

In fact this call sign was only used once during Stephanie Turner's tenure, which incidently was the last episode of Series Three.

However from Series Four to Six the call sign was frequently used.

The working title of the programme employed by series creator ian kennedy martin was "Inspector, Ma'am", a reference to the lead character's rank and title—a title whose use she was forced to insist upon from one of her Sergeants in the first episode of series 1, due to his preference for the informal, and possibly derogatory, "Boss". However, "Inspector, Ma'am" was dropped during filming of the first series

The lead role of Inspector Jean Darblay was played by Stephanie Turner between 1980 and 1982, and her replacement Inspector Kate Longton was played by Anna Carteret between 1983 and 1985.

it was a very gritty show.

Stephanie Turner later joined a feminist poetry trio called The Raving Beauties- they brought out a poetry collection called 'In The Pink' and used to perform at The Edinburgh Festival.

Loved JB, one episode that particularly sticks in my mind was the tragic death of the character PC Danny Sparks. It was very moving to have the commanding officer showing some real emotion over the loss!

Loved the theme too!

JB was often filmed in and around my home town of Burnley, Lancashire. I watched some of the filming a couple of times, which wasn't all that exciting to be honest. Great show though - I remember a witchcraft themed story that was quite creepy. A school friend of mine (David Hartley?) was in one episode about stolen bikes

I used to love watching Juliet Bravo on a Saturday evening, I would regularly watch it with my cousin. PC Danny Sparks was our favourite character along with Sgt Beck, as has been said the storylines were pretty downbeat/dark at times.

It was very dark I remember. I remember one episode where the actress who plays Sally in Coronation Street played a very young school girl who was using drugs. It was called "Chasing the Dragon" if I remember right. Also David Ellison who played Joe Beck was in the PIF about wearing ear protection when working in a factory with loud noises.

I have every series of 'Juliet Bravo' on DVD. A great TV series which doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

It made a star out of the Ford Escort MkII police cars, replaced in the last two series by the Austin Maestro. I believe the police station used for filming is in Bacup. The banter between Sgt's Joe Beck and George Parrish in the show could be quite entertaining. P.C. Danny Sparks died in the final episode of the last (sixth) series. Many of the storylines were quite poignant for the era (and indeed now), with unemployment and youth issues to the fore. The excellent theme tune was by Derek Goom. Stephanie Turner and Anna Carteret chalked up 44 episodes each.

There was an episode of Juliet Bravo that absolutely freaked me out as a kid and I was that scared I had to sleep in my parents bed.

It involved one neighbour drilling holes in the wall of another neighbour and whispering through the holes to scare them. Well it definitely scared me!

yes i remember it well.
it really was a scaryish show at times im not shocked u where freaked out that much.

I remember a few JB episodes with some quite scary moments, though sometimes it would overplay things so they ended up almost comical.

The town it was set in was based on Todmorden.

I have these vague but vivid memories of this show, and was convinced the actress who played the lead was Hannah Gordon!
