Early 80's dubbed kids sci-fi drama?

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to find the title of a early 80's children's imported/dubbed drama about a boy and a laser. All that I can remember is he is being chased by a mysterious gang who are want this laser. It was probably French, but was obviously dubbed for the UK. A small fragment to go on, sorry!!
