I suppose some might argue that the answer to life, the universe and everything is actually nothing. As far as they're concerned that what it's all worth.

I think the joke lies in "six times nine" (pulled from the scrabble bag) being the question, and "42" being the answer, which doesn't make sense.

That's why God leaves this message in letters of fire in the mountains of that planet: "We apologise for the inconvenience".

The universe doesn't make sense because it cannot make sense, there is an underlying error, somewhere.
