I liked the one where the prisoners are talking about attacking the new rapist inmate. They burst into his cell but when they discover it's Mike Tyson they all back off quickly "sorry to bother you Mr Tyson".

IIRC, Messrs Luck and Flaw - the creators - stopped making it as they believed the political climate at the time was too tame! Not now it isn't!

Also I heard it was going to cost too much to make a whole new cabinet's worth of puppets that would be needed after the 1997 General Election.

The cost was a big problem. This is one of the reasons why it finished. Another reason was Margaret Thatcher was no longer Prime Minister. This had a big impact on the programme. She was the central character. While there were many sketches that did not involve her, the programme always came back to her, one way or another. The general consensus was that the programme seemed to had lost it's direction. Shame really.

It also lost something after Ronald Regan's time as US President ended, as he was good for a joke about him being clueless or having health problems.

I always felt 2DTV was the spiritual successor to Spitting Image, with this being one of my favourite scenes:
