A metal sphere/ball follows a boy......does anyone remember?

A friend asked me this the other day and I have a very vague memory of watching a tv shows sometime in the 70s where a metal ball follows a kid around and maybe talks to him. It was one of those low budget 70s sci-fi show.

Sounds like the Children's Fill Foundation feature The Glitterball.

I have a copy of The Glitterball on DVD. It was filmed in and around Hatfield in Herts. I was working in the old Woolco store when some of the filming was done.

I remember reading the novel of The Glitterball before seeing at as a Friday Film Special on CBBC.

The main character was the son of an RAF pilot & was in Woolco to buy an Airfix kit of a plane.
