Re: Things you no longer see or hear on TV
Circus or magic acts & the like getting a guest spot on TV, these seemed to vanish in the early 1990s.
Back in the day the likes of Billy Smart's Circus was a big feature of Christmas TV.
I remember the first Only Fools & Horses Christmas special managed to have 2 on different channels, which wasn't good for Rodney as he didn't like them.

Re: Things you no longer see or hear on TV
I was staying in Cumbria in 2003 and I know that Border's Scottish adverts were also shown in Cumbria - it's such a small region that is covers so many different areas from end to the other. I suppose that it's better to have an SNP event shown in Cumbria rather than it "not" being shown in Dumfries and Galloway. HTV didn't have this problem with Plaid Cymru broadcasts - i.e. it was not shown in Bristol.
Also remember because of the Scottish/Welsh governments and assemblies, a Labour or Conservative broadcast might probably be a different one to the one shown in England. I suppose that with the Border issue, the Westminster one would be the more relevant right across that region than the Scottish one would be.

Re: Things you no longer see or hear on TV
Major events involving the SNP, such as their national conference, used to be shown on STV, Grampian, and Border which resulted in them being broadcast in Cumbria and the Isle of Man. Does ITV still network programmes involving the SNP from STV to it's Border territory or are they only broadcast on STV?

Re: Things you no longer see or hear on TV
While I like lots of American shows I do find the way they use a team of writers to churn out episodes can be hit & miss. Some episodes of Everyone Loves Raymond and Will & Grace can be barley watchable, but the ones before or after can be a laugh a minute.Originally posted by Zincubus View Post...... and I know which versions are FUNNY !
Sadly it ain't the British ones .. Sorry .
We've nothing to rival , Cheers , Frasier , Seinfeld and more recently The Middle , Modern Family or Big Bang and those are just scraping the surface , there must be hundreds of truly wonderful American sitcoms ..
It's hard to tell how to tell how they compare, especially if we only get the better ones imported & spread over lots of different channels.

...... and I know which versions are FUNNY !Originally posted by victorbrunswick View PostIn actuality American TV copies heavily from British TV. Here's some of the hit TV shows over the years:
"All in the Family" ("Till Death Do Us Part")
"Sanford & Son" ("Steptoe & Son")
"Three's Company" ("Man About the House")
"Big Bang Theory" ("The IT Crowd")
And then there's the American versions of "Survivor," "Big Brother," et al.

The Big Bang Theory wasn't a copy of The IT Crowd, which did have an American pilot.Originally posted by victorbrunswick View PostIn actuality American TV copies heavily from British TV. Here's some of the hit TV shows over the years:
