Re: Tv programmes before your time

The Quatermass serials have been mentioned several times but I would have loved to have seen them upon their first transmission. Streets emptied and people who didn't have a TV watched on neighbours and friends sets when the serials were on.

Yes very special, it was the first big tv event, after the coronation ofcourse, the BBC didn't expect it to be this popular they hit lucky. I remember my parents and other "grown-ups" talking about it and perhaps thats where my love of sci fi / horror came from. Can't recall the young ITV hitting back with anything similar, know later they had the American imports Twilight zone, Alfred hitchcock, Outer limits and One step beyond but as for homegrown progs' my minds a blank, they certainly had nothing that came close to Quatermass.

About 20 years ago I became interested in classic TV & Blakes 7 was one show which captured my imagination, especially as it had a lot of shared history with Dr Who.
