Blaster Bates was a self-taught demolitions man who blew up chimneys and so forth. He appeared on TV a number of times in the 70s. He would give talks on demolitions and his experiences in that trade at Rotary Club events etc. Some of his talks were recorded and released on LPs and later on CD. He is extremely funny and I would recommend him to anyone who enjoys a good laugh. There are many clips of him on Youtube...just type in blaster bates and take a look

Dannie Abse was the younger brother of the late Labour politician Leo Abse - a politician whose surname was listed first alphabetically for many years.

I thought that Watchnight would be on Christmas Eve rather than New Year's Eve, and probably in Scotland only if that.

The Old Grey Whistle Test was presumably the indirect predecessor of Jools Holland and his Hootenanny - it was still seen in the mid 1980s.
