  • Comedy Sketch About Bass Players - Possibly Kenny Everett?

I remember a comedy sketch where a guy who had written a "Learn To Play Bass" book was taken to court because his book didn't use bass tabs. The sketch was in the courtroom and a number of real bass players were witnesses for the prosecution and when asked to play from the book they all couldn't because there were no tabs.

Two of the bass players were Lemmy from Motorhead and Mark King from Level 42. There may have been more.

It might have been from one of Kenny Everett's shows.

    Ring any bells with anyone?

    Cheers,

    Finnthedude.

I think it was a sketch on French & Saunders, but not actually featuring them, just an upcoming comedian they were friends with.

Courtroom sketches are a good source of comedy for parodying, probably because of the irony of TV cameras not being able to appear inside a court in real life.

I know that the Grumbleweeds (cue the Crown Court end theme in the background, hence both programmes were made by Granada), and Russ Abbot's Madhouse had courtroom sketches in their series.

If it was Everett then it would most likely to be one of his BBC series.

Yes, that's it! It was Roland Rivron on The French and Saunders show. Not just bass players but loads of top guitarists. Youtube link HERE.

        Thank you Richard1978, you're a star.

You are welcome, only recently I was reminded about it.

I remember the music book didn't have any diagrams for the finger positions to play particular chords.
