Maybe Deputy Dawg was once deputy to Sheriff Ricochet Rabbit? That was another Hanna-Barberra cartoon I remembered seeing in the '70s when I was small. They seemed to have a thousand such characters... Huckleberry Hound, Top Cat, Ruff & Reddy, Quick Draw McGraw (and Baba Louie), Wally Gator, Squiddly Diddley, Magilla Gorilla, Peter Potomus, Secret Squirrel (and Morocco Mole), Snaggle Puss, Wacky Racers (with Dastardly & Muttly)... and of course Yogi Bear (and his little bear buddy Boo-Boo). Which ones have I missed? Lots!

Think it just sounded good .. both starting with D... same with Mickey and Minnie Mouse , Donald Duck and a fair few others I dare say

Why was he called "Deputy" Dawg? - was there a "Dawg" (or dog) that he was deputy to?

(You can tell that I hardly ever watched the cartoons).
