    Re: Prisoner Cell Block H

I have recently started to watch it again from the beginning.
During the mid 90s I was watching it on the Anglia & Yorkshire TV regions.
Yorkshire was a couple of years behind Anglia, the first time I saw the incredible end to the series was on Anglia in about 95-96.
The whole thing still stands up wonderfully today, obviously it was cheap to make, but the characters are awesome.
One of my all time favourite TV shows - total classic.

    Prisoner Cell Block H

Am watching this again after it being on ITV all those years ago in the early-mid 90s, when I was a teenager. I had forgotten how good it could be. Yes, there are unintentional hilarious moments in it, like when the walls move when someone slams into them, but I am a sucker for a good story and this show had some bloody good stories. Not to mention the inimitable Lizzie Birdsworth, whith her wonderful expressions such as 'Ya bloody drongo' and 'Well bugger me gently'

Does anyone else remember this, or have you watched it?

Indeed Darren. I never knew who sung the song, but I have got the theme version on Soaps CD. It is good to know who sang it .

    Thanks for the information mate,

but a show like this should.
I did'nt really watch Bad Girls Darren (if I did it was speradic i#of only like 5/10 mins at a time), but from what I can remember is, it's portrayal of Prison life was no-where near as good as Prisoner Cell Block H, though of course they were totaly different from different Country's and era.

I know Bad Girls was more of a Drama but it never trulycame across as a good portrayal like PCBH at all. For/to me it Cell Block H, is still as fresh as (storyline wise and the true grittyness of it etc) it was from 1979 onwards - even though this is over 30 years since.

It wasn't shown in its entirety on Channel 4 Darren, they just left it mid-series. Was really annoyed about that, and then just to twist the knife they showed it on Channel 5 which I couldn't get!

Do you remember Nola McKenzie? She was scary!

I recently(earlier) did a Wiki searcxh on Cell Block H, and obviously it was the Australian versionb of Wiki. How great their site is, it put's the UL one to shame I feel. It is so colourful and not dowdy etc like I find the UK Wiki after 30 mins. A brilliant effort - i'll give it 10 out of 10, worth a look, i'd recommend any Cell Block H fan to check the site out no hesitation.

Yeah it was often said the acting etc and the props were poor, but it was one fantastic show I think. Nearly 700 Episodes in only 7 year's is great going!!
